Markanda + Kunghada Caves Heritage Expedition

Gondwana Collective invites you to a deep-dive heritage expedition through two of Vidarbha’s culturally significant sites — the Markanda Temple Complex and the ancient Kunghada Caves. This isn’t just a tour; it’s a knowledge-forward, on-ground exploration designed to decode the architecture, stories, craftsmanship, and living cultural layers embedded in these historic landscapes.

We start the journey at dawn, heading first to Bhiwapur for a local breakfast, before entering the sculptural universe of Markanda — a temple town often referred to as the “Mini Khajuraho” of the region. Our team will unpack the site’s architectural evolution, iconographic storytelling, and current conservation challenges.

Post lunch, the expedition continues to Kunghada Caves, where we explore early rock-cut architecture and its unique spatial logic. The caves offer a rare window into ritual spaces shaped centuries ago.

We wrap up with evening snacks at Bhiwapur before heading back to Nagpur. Expect insightful narratives, grounded storytelling, and a day packed with cultural discovery.
